Video Game Design 2 Syllabus

Overview of the class:

Video Game Design II builds on the skills acquired in Video Game Design I.  Students will review the skills learned in Video Game Design I and then investigate advanced topics in game design such as, modeling, rigging, lighting, textures and materials.  They will work individually and in teams to design and create fully developed and featured video games.

1st Grading Period:  Aug 28 – Oct 13 (7 weeks)

We will explore Unity’s 3D tools to create terrains, 3D objects, textures, and controllers.  We will also learn Autodesk Maya (a 3D modeling program) and make humanoid characters to feature in a game.

2nd Grading Period: Oct 16 – Dec 15 (9 weeks)

Students will review C# scripting and explore different systems in games such as:  UI, raycasting, prefabs, inventory, etc… We will build a game together as we demonstrate/practice these new skills.

3rd Grading Period:  Jan 2 – March 9 (10 weeks)

Students will develop an idea for a simple 3D game.  They will then develop their idea, create assets, code, playtest, and present their completed game.

4th Grading Period:  March 19 – May 31 (11 weeks)

During the 4th nine weeks students will work in teams of two to develop and create a 3D game.  There will be a cycle of design, create, test, and refine that we will follow.  At the end of the quarter students will present their completed games and review and rate the games created.

CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization)

We will be participating in TSA (Technology Student Association) CTSO this year.  Students can join TSA to participate in competitions and other events.  You can find the TSA website at:  www.tsaweb.org for more information.  Dues and signup information will be given to the students during the first grading period.
